The Product

Dyson’s Cyclone V10 Absolute Lightweight Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner is marketed as the ultimate vacuum for road trips! So clearly, we had to try it since our life in the RV is a never ending road trip. The Dyson Cyclose V10 is also versatile and powerful enough to be used in a home too, just not vehicles.

Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute

The Features

Dyson is known as the crème de la crème of vacuums and prides itself on their powerfully, innovative products and the The Dyson Cyclone V10 is just that. It’s the smallest, lightest, and strongest motor Dyson has ever produced. It’s suction was tested against other cord-free stick vacuums and was ranked the best, according to Dyson. In fact, it has the same suction power as a standard, full-size vacuum.

It’s cord-free feature along with the combination tool, crevice tool, mini soft dusting brush, and mini-motorized tool allow you to vacuum practically anywhere. The battery, after a full charge (3.5 hours for first use) will run for up to 60 minutes when using a non-motorized tool. It has 3 different power modes to fit the right task and floor type, as well as conserve battery life. The Cyclone V10 Absolute is engineered to pick up large debris, ground-in dirt and fine dust from both hard surfaces and carpets.

The vacuum can transform from a handheld vacuum to a stick vacuum, making it suitable for a variety of jobs – from a quick clean up to a difficult area. The .2 gallon bin is easy to empty and the filtration system traps 99.97% of particles while expelling cleaner air. The vacuum is also specifically designed with pet owners in mind.

What’s Great

We have to have a vacuum in our RV. Between Lindsay’s long locks and 2 dogs that shed, plus the outdoors constantly finding their way indoors, we do a lot of sweeping. But, sweeping just doesn’t always cut it. We have carpeted areas in the cab of the motorhome, on the steps, and an area rug to add that special touch of home. We also have a jeep that we drop the top on often, which means dust and dirt is constantly piling up in there as well.

We also need a vacuum that doesn’t take up too much of our precious storage space. The vacuum we had before our Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute took up nearly our entire storage area underneath our couch. The Dyson takes up half that space! So the fact that it’s super compact, without sacrificing on power, was a big win for us!

Another feature we loved was how lightweight it is. This, along with the cord free feature, and ability to be both a stick vacuum and a handheld vacuum, made us happy campers. We often camp off the grid and use a generator for power. Not having to plug in the vacuum and quickly being able to pull it out for a quick pick up, is a game changer for us. We can turn it into a stick vacuum for the carpeted areas, take it out to the jeep, and get those hard to reach areas between the car seats in both vehicles, using the additional tools. We were also impressed by the power of this tiny vacuum!

What’s Not-So-Great

While the Cyclone V10 Absolute has a 40% bigger bin than Dyson’s previous V8 Absolute Vacuum, it still fills up pretty quickly. But, I guess what else do you expect with a vacuum of that size – you can’t have the best of both worlds in this case!

The battery life is also less-than great. While it says 60 minutes, the majority of jobs require the most powerful suction setting, which drains the battery much quicker. We found that it was starting to fade within about 20 minutes and totally dead before 30. With a tiny home, this isn’t a huge deal because we can typically finish the job in that amount of time, but we don’t exactly love having to charge it after every single use.

The Review

When rating the products we try out, we take the following into account:

  • Price (we’re cheap…but Dan prefers to call us “frugal”!)
  • Value (if we do spend money, we want it to be worth it!)
  • Practicality (we’re minimalists and don’t want useless crap!)
  • Durability (we want our things to last!)

Here’s How the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute Did:

4 star rating

We gave the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute vacuum 4 stars. There’s only 2 reasons why it didn’t get that extra star.

1. Although it’s small, it’s price tag is not. You’ll pay a pretty penny for this vacuum, and while you’ll get good value for it. it can be hard to afford.

2. The battery life is a definite disadvantage. For us, the other features make up for this, but a short battery life can definitely be frustrating if the vacuum dies in the middle of cleaning. However, we’re not sure you could get much better battery life out of such a powerful and compact tool, so it’s just the sacrifice you have to make for the versatility!
